Don’t Ride the Hype Train: A Note to Myself
I was randomly surfing Reddit and came across this post: Rust and Primagen. The user was sharing how they learned Rust because of Primagen’s hype, only to see him do a complete 180 later. And honestly? Same.
Primagen made a lot of Rust content back then---videos, streams, you name it. It was everywhere. I started getting his videos recommended all the time, so I figured, “Why not?” I followed him, started learning Rust, and spent months diving into it. And yeah, he did hype the language a bit too much---intentionally or maybe just because, well, he’s a content creator. That’s his thing.
But here’s the thing: a lot of people, including me, ended up learning the language because of him. And while I do love Rust now and appreciate what I’ve learned, I also spent two months obsessing over setting up Neovim (thanks again, Primagen).
So, what’s the point of this post? I guess it’s just a little reminder to myself: don’t ride the hype train. Whether it’s a language, a tool, or a framework, take the time to figure out if it’s actually right for you instead of jumping in because someone else is hyped about it.
Lesson learned.
